Recently completed this very unique 7.5m Boardroom table with seating for 16. The design needed to be visually stunning but still offer a practicality for the 16 board members and though I like to incorporate the natural edges of the tree in my furniture, maintaining the outer edge would prove unworkable as it would catch on clothing. Thus the table has a sawn outer edge and a canyon down the centre formed by the mating of the two natural edges.
The timber chosen for the project was West Australian Marri which came from the southern area above Albany. The floating Marri top comprises of 4 slabs with a glue-less join between the two pairs of slabs, locator pins and custom built tensioners keep the joins together perfectly.
The black metal underlay provides a base to the natural edge canyon and offers a visual contrast highlighting the variation in the natural edge.
The top is supported by 3 steel legs and steel super structure, shaped to provide unimpeded leg space for delegates while seated.
